You Belong To Me
Death of Nations: Part V |
Written
and Directed by Josh Fox
When you are forced to choose between
the country you live in and the person you love, who do you
belong to?
New York Premiere set for Friday, January
5, 2007
Friday, December
1, 2006 – International
WOW Company is proud to present You Belong To Me, a whirlwind
journey of territorial obsession. The play delves into the
last days of three wars, spanning three centuries. Moving
from the Great Plains of America at the end of the “Indian
Wars” to the end of the Nazi Holocaust, to the so-called “end
of major combat operations” in Baghdad, we follow a single
multi-ethnic family through several generations. Filled with
brutal laughs and tragic irony, You Belong To Me is an
intensely physical and musical rollercoaster ride of love, betrayal
and murder throughout the ages.
A soaring spectacle in its own right, You Belong to Me, is the
fifth installment of the Death of Nations Project, an exciting
and epic play cycle that has been produced internationally. It
is the product of Mr. Fox’s extensive collaboration with
Frank Raddatz (former dramaturg to Heiner Müller) and the
Forum Freies Theater in Duesseldorf Germany, Rody Vera of the Cultural
Center of the Philippines. Mr. Fox directs an 11-member ensemble
featuring noted German stage star Irene Christ and downtown superstar
Okwui Okpokwasili (Maria Del Bosco, Roaring Girl) and
International WOW Core members Deborah Wallace (The Expense
of Spirit, The BOMB) and Robert Saietta (orphan on god’s
highway, The Comfort and Safety of Your Own Home).

and adventurous programming at Performance Space 122. From work
that is distinctly American to work created from an international
perspective to the purely abstract; from solo performance to grand
spectacle, experimental theater to incendiary playwriting, from
intimate dances to idiosyncratic movement to post-modern pop-culture
choreographic free-for-alls Coil: A Winter Arts Festival offers
seven days of relevant, of-the-moment, groundbreaking work.
