A wild Memorial Day weekend takes an unexpected turn in this brutally thrilling roller coaster ride through national obsessions. Josh Fox and a ferocious ensemble push the envelope of a war holiday gone wild. Beginning as a rowdy beach weekend video, Memorial Day twists and turns to find the dark hearts of young Americans who live to tape their most debauched adventures. The characters are thrust into full exposure, both physically and emotionally, to a place where self-exploitation and the exploitation of others give rise to a shocking new kind of entertainment. The camera creates a sphere of provocation wherever it goes, ramping up actions and pushing characters to a place of hyper-real catharsis. Three years later over 500 institutions representing over 3 trillion dollars in assets have committed to divest. The film tells the dramatic story of the historic #NODAPL native-led peaceful resistance at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota, which captured the world's attention as one of the biggest stories of 2016. What if instead of building walls, we built longer tables? For six years, Oscar-nominated, Emmy-winning director Josh Fox has been tracking the story of climate refugees across the U.S. to the Caribbean to South America to Asia to Europe. In Fall 2023, we are building a long table. We are inviting climate refugees from around the world to sit down at a massive table together - to tell their stories, to eat, to sing, and to heal. The Welcome Table will be a testament to mutual aid, community, and welcoming - an example of the work we need to do in this climate-changed world.
